Who to Contact in an Emergency

by EgyptTripAdviser on August 27, 2009

If you are ever stuck in a sticky situation and you need someone to give a ride home then there are a few things that you can do. One of the things that you can do is call a Portland Maine taxis Company or Portland Maine cab. If you are not comfortable with getting a cab then you should keep a list of individuals that you can call if you are in need of a ride. The individuals on a person’s list depend on what kind of relationships that he or she possesses. There are a few people that you should consider putting on your list of emergency contacts.
One of the individuals that you should consider putting on. If you have any brothers or sisters then you could add them on your list. First of all, they most likely owe you for something so they will most likely be willing to help you out. Your siblings are individuals that you can at least, ideally, always count on. This is why they are great to have on your crisis list, just in case you get in trouble. If you do not have any siblings then you may want to put a close family member on your crisis contact list. This could be an aunt, uncle, cousin or whoever you want. This is the first individual that you should consider putting on your contact list.
One of the other individuals that you should consider adding to your crisis contact list is your best friend. Your best friend will hopefully always be there to assist you and catch you when you fall so he or she is a great person to have on your contact list. If you have several good friends then you should add all of them to your crisis contact list. The more individuals that you have on your list that you feel comfortable contacting the better. If you do not have one specific close friend then just add one of your closest friends to your call list. If you do not have any true friends then you could add an acquaintance that is if you would be comfortable calling he or she in an crisis situation. These are other individuals that you should consider adding to your crisis contact list.
Another individual that you should consider adding to you crisis contact list is one of your parents. To many, this may not seem like a great idea, but when you are flustered and need assistance they maybe the best person to call. If you have a great relationship with your parents then you should definitely add them to your crisis contact list. But, if you do not have a great relationship with your parents then you should definitely still add them to your list, but put them towards the bottom. These are three individuals that you should keep in mind when you are making your crisis contact list. Hopefully, you’ll never have to call any of them.

Ways to Be Safe When Traveling to a Different Country

by EgyptTripAdviser on August 24, 2009

Each year a large number of American tourists go on vacation in a foreign country and do not return. The list for international missing persons is on the rise as the world becomes more dangerous. Unfortunately, most of these types of cases become international cold cases as well. However, you do not have to become another statistic when you travel abroad. There are many ways to protect yourself while you are traveling to another country. Here are some things you can do to make sure you return home after a vacation abroad:
1. Stay with at least one other person . Do not go places by yourself , especially at night. Also, if you traveling with just one other person, it is mostly likely a decent choice to stay in a well lit area and/or more crowded places. This is most likely the most basic guideline, and probably the most ignored as well.
2. Do not go to the residence of someone you don’t know . Even if you think the people or person you meet seem extremely kind very nice, you should be wary if a person you do not know asks you to come to their home or their hotel room. If you want to meet up with people you meet while one your trip, make sure you go to a public place.
3. Do not give anyone you spend time with specific information about where you are staying or your contact information in the United States. It is not a terrible thing to tell people you meet along your trip which hotel you are staying at, but do not give them your room number. Also, do not give your entire name to people you don’t know . You can still be polite by only telling your first name.
4. It is very important that you are aware of your surroundings at all times, especially after dark. It is pretty simple for human traffickers or thieves to kidnap you or take your things if you look like you don’t know where you are and you can’t see because of the dark. It is also essential to be cautious and have a good idea of where you are going if you are walking around a foreign city at night.
5. It is better for you to keep important documents, like your passport and money, with you or locked up in the hotel safe at all times. If a thief gets a hold of your passport, you will be an easy target for human traffickers or for identity theft.
6. Finally, look up any safety concerns on a government website, like the CIA or look in a reputable travel book that will tell you most of the major safety concerns in the specific country to which you are traveling.
If you follow these guidelines, you will most likely a happy and safe vacation. To summarize, it is a good idea to stay in areas that have more locals, especially at night, and do not give specific information about yourself or your hotel arrangements with people you meet along your trip. Numerous Americans believe that traveling abroad nowadays is too dangerous; however, if you make a conscious effort to keep yourself safe, there shouldn’t be any problems with your vacation abroad.

Travel What You Can Do To Get Through The Airport Quicker and With More Ease

by EgyptTripAdviser on August 15, 2009

A lot of Americans have traveled by air at least once with many of them traveling by air several times a year . Over the last several years, particularly since the September 11th attacks, airplane travel has changed quite a bit requiring some knowledge in addition to patience on the part of the traveler. This article will offer some tips on ways to make your trip by plane as easy as it can be whether it is by accessing online check-in and carrying on luggage to having your luggage sent by a Dallas courier or courier in Dallas instead of on the flight .
The first topic to discuss is luggage. In the past , passengers could bring whatever they wanted in several, big suitcases as they wanted and checked it through hoping the bags make it to the destination . due to higher security, carry-on luggage is a lot more carefully monitored as is checked luggage . No liquids more than 4 ounces may be brought on board and has to be scanned by TSA while in a specific size zip-loc baggie . This caused many people checking through their luggage until about a year and a half ago when the economy and airlines began to struggle financially. due to the increased expense of fuel airlines now charge people up to $20 per bag to check it through and many times they get lost in the process.
The best way to avoid the added charge and the trouble of lugging all of your suitcases to the airport and then a high probability to have them getting lost, would be to use a courier service that can deliver your things right to your destination on the same day you get there . If you are going to have to spend money for your bags to get there anyway, why not have a more sure method without having to schlep them throughout the airports yourself ?
Another suggestion to avoid some huge lines would be to do two things; check in ahead of time online or by using your Blackberry and carry-on your luggage . A majority of the huge lines at the check-in area at the airport are people needing to check their luggage and get their boarding pass . Now if you check in early from home and get your boarding pass, you can completely avoid this line at all and go straight to the security. The required (hour and a half to two|1-2} hours time frame that most of the airlines tell you to follow can now be greatly reduced .
The final suggestion on traveling by air would be some items to carry on with you to make your trip more comfortable. Temperatures on planes can vary a bit and many people find themselves chilly on flights. Be sure to pack a small blanket or jacket and some socks if you wore sandals to stay comfortable while in the air . Another thing to pack is your own things to eat . A lot of airlines have eliminated food from their flights so bringing a few healthy snacks or a sandwich is a good suggestion and your stomach will thank you too from not eating the fast food in the terminal .
